[yourNEWS.com] Ukraine has agreed to a U.S.-proposed 30-day ceasefire with Russia, contingent on Kremlin approval, following negotiations led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Saudi Arabia on March 12. The joint statement from the U.S. State Department and Ukraine confirms that the United States will immediately restore military aid and intelligence sharing to Ukraine during the ceasefire period.
“Ukraine expressed readiness to accept the U.S. proposal to enact an immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire, which can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties, and which is subject to acceptance and concurrent implementation by the Russian Federation,” the statement reads. “The United States will communicate to Russia that Russian reciprocity is the key to achieving peace.”
The agreement follows a tense Oval Office exchange between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Donald Trump, which soured relations over a proposed mineral extraction deal. Days later, Zelenskyy apologized and signaled renewed interest in both the deal and peace talks.
