South African Police Open Treason Investigation Into Critics of Government

South African authorities have launched a treason investigation targeting individuals linked to Afriforum, a group advocating for Afrikaner farmers, following allegations from political parties.

The inquiry is being led by the Hawks, a specialized investigative unit within the South African Police Services (SAPS).

The case comes after accusations from South African political parties, including the ruling African National Congress (ANC) and the radical Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), that Afriforum and the Solidarity trade union have sought international support to influence foreign policy against South Africa. Afriforum and Solidarity, both of which advocate for Afrikaner interests, have engaged in lobbying efforts in Washington, D.C., where they have raised concerns about land expropriation policies and racial discrimination in South Africa. These efforts have drawn criticism from ANC-aligned figures, particularly after U.S. President Donald Trump announced cuts to foreign aid to South Africa and other nations.
